Braulio ends year with another high!
Despite a year which started with Braulio being plagued with a serious knee injury, which resulted in an operation and an absence from any serious training, the year has ended with some very positive highs, which has culminated in Braulio winning the Capital Challenge in Jordan this weekend, both his weight and absolute divisions. This is his latest triumph to add to the recent Panam no-gi championships held ini New York, which also saw him win double gold. (Following extracts taken courtesy of Gracie.mag).
$150 cash up for grabs
With a total of 150 thousand dollars in cash prizes, the Capital Challenge, held in Jordan, on its second day brought edge-of-your-seat excitement, cutting-edge techniques and local fanfare on par with international soccer superstars. Those to come out of the experience happiest were our very own Braulio & Otavio, as well as Charles Cachoeira, Kyra Gracie, Lucio “Lagarto,” Michael Langhi, Rubens Charles and Sergio Moraes, who will have an all-the-richer Christmas.
“Carcara" wins double once again!
Treated with endearment by the crowd, the athletes weren’t as loving with each other, and went at it. In the absolute, Braulio “Carcara” Estima was the grand champ, after beating Leo Leites by 2 to 0, by penalty, after a riveting match. The Alliance fighter risked going for a forearm choke, while the Gracie Barra teacher launched a worrisome assault on the arm, as the seven regulation-time minutes came to an end.
In the 88kg category, Braulio came up spades again, shutting out with his student Otavio de Souza, who tapped to an armbar in the final, in a “friendly” fight. Carcara submitted Edmilson Conceicao from the back while Otavio beat Tiago Alves and Tarsis Humphreys, in what was one of the best fights of the event.
Once again great well done to Braulio and Otavio.
